The company will provide daily demonstrations of its cellular IoT, Wi-Fi, nRF Cloud Location Services, Matter, DECT NR+, and LE Audio solutions at the region’s most important connectivity event

Nordic Semiconductor returns to Asia’s largest and most influential connectivity event next month, with MWC Shanghai 2023 to be staged from June 28 to 30 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC). The showpiece event promises to ‘unlock the full power of connectivity’ and provides Nordic with an opportunity to demonstrate its complete suite of low power wireless connectivity solutions spanning Cellular IoT, Bluetooth® LE, Wi-Fi, Matter, Thread, and DECT NR+ IoT technologies.

Personalized demonstrations

Over the course of the three day event, Nordic will offer a wide range of daily personalized demonstrations at its booth (N2-D100). Customers, potential customers and interested parties are invited to come to the booth to book a demonstration.

The ‘ThingyWorld’ demo will show how customers can combine the Nordic Thingy:91 cellular IoT prototyping platform, the nRF9160 DK, and the company’s nRF Cloud Location Services to support cellular IoT applications demanding fast and power-efficient location details.

For visitors interested in DECT NR+ (NR+)—the world’s first non-cellular 5G technology standard used for self-healing, decentralized, and autonomous mesh networks—Nordic has partnered with Wirepas to offer a complete NR+ solution, leveraging the existing low power nRF91 series and Wirepas’ 5G Mesh solution for NR+. The demonstration will show developers of smart energy, smart city and asset tracking applications can use NR+ to easily set up and manage a private 5G wireless IoT network, and connect millions of devices at very low cost of ownership.

Wi-Fi locationing

In Wi-Fi, demonstrations will include the power efficiency benefits of Wi-Fi 6 for IoT applications, as well as the capability of cellular and Wi-Fi locationing. Nordic engineers will demonstrate how the nRF7002 Wi-Fi 6 Companion IC, in conjunction with Nordic’s nRF9160 System-in-Package (SiP) with integrated LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and GNSS, can be used to perform Wi-Fi locationing. Wi-Fi locationing provides a solution to both indoor and outdoor asset tracking applications requiring lower power consumption than GPS tracking can offer and with greater accuracy than cellular-based locationing. Another locationing demo alongside Nordic customer, Tsingoal, will explain Bluetooth 5.1 indoor location finding using Bluetooth LE Angle-of-Arrival (AOA) functionality

For the connected home, Nordic will demonstrate Matter in action. Matter is the result of the Connectivity Standards Alliance’s efforts to create a unified application layer for smart home applications, and Nordic has been a key contributor to the Matter specification. At MWC Shanghai, there will be a demonstration of how to control Matter-enabled smart home accessories on a Matter network using both Apple and Google ecosystems. The demonstration will use both Matter-over-Thread and Matter-over-Wi-Fi, as well as Nordic’s nRF7002 DK for the nRF7002 Wi-Fi 6 Companion IC.

For developers designing the latest audio solutions, Nordic will also demonstrate the next generation of Bluetooth wireless streaming, Bluetooth LE Audio, based on the dual-core nRF5340 wireless SoC. Nordic’s nRF5340 Audio Development Kit includes everything required for developers to take advantage of Bluetooth LE Audio’s sound quality, low power consumption, and wireless stereo enhancements.

In addition to the daily demonstrations, Damien Wong, Director of Sales - Greater China at Nordic Semiconductor will address the media on June 29 to discuss Nordic’s suite of existing solutions and applications, as well as product development plans for H2 2023. This includes the introduction of the nRF54H20—Nordic’s new fourth generation multiprotocol SoC—and the world’s first comprehensive cellular IoT/non-cellular 5G massive IoT platform.

“The Asia Pacific region is a leader and an innovator in advanced wireless connectivity technologies, and MWC Shanghai 2023 provides an opportunity to showcase this technology to the rest of the world,” says Bjørn Åge "Bob" Brandal, VP of Sales and Marketing, Asia Pacific, Nordic Semiconductor. “It also gives us the chance to show our customers how active Nordic has been in R&D and product development since MWC Shanghai was last staged.

“Nordic is now one of very few global firms that can deliver its customers solutions across all three of the IoT’s foundation technologies–Bluetooth LE, Cellular IoT, and Wi-Fi–and we welcome all visitors to our booth to demonstrate how Nordic can help wirelessly connect anything in the IoT space.”
