Nordic Semiconductor powers Matter over Wi-Fi smart lock for local or remote access

Anona Security Technology Limited’s Anona Holo smart lock integrates nRF5340 SoC and nRF7002 Wi-Fi 6 Companion IC to provide secure Matter over Wi-Fi smart home connectivity

Anona Security Technology Limited has released a Matter over Wi-Fi compatible smart lock, that can be installed on any door to provide remote wireless access to a premises for the homeowner or an approved visitor. The ‘Anona Holo’ smart lock integrates both Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF5340 advanced multiprotocol SoC and nRF7002 Wi-Fi 6 Companion IC to enable the device to be locked and unlocked using Bluetooth® LE wireless connectivity via an app on the user’s smartphone, or using Matter over Wi-Fi connectivity between the smart lock and a compatible smart home ecosystem.
 

Matter over Wi-Fi smart home support 

The Anona Holo smart lock supports locking and unlocking via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE, as well as manually using a keypad code and a mechanical thumb latch. When the user is within Bluetooth LE range of their door, the smart lock can be unlocked via the ‘Anona Security’ iOS or Android smartphone app.  

The Anona Holo smart lock is among the first smart devices to work with Matter via direct Wi-Fi connection, without the need for an additional Wi-Fi bridge. It seamlessly blends into users’ existing smart home systems, including Alexa, Apple Home, and other smart devices compatible with Matter. With a built-in Wi-Fi connection to the home access point (AP), the homeowner can relay the unlock request to the device from the app whether they are on their doorstep or operating it remotely.

Best-in-class SoC security 

Nordic’s nRF5340 SoC incorporates an Arm CryptoCell-312 cryptographic accelerator offering best-in-class security for Cortex-M based SoCs, and Arm TrustZone for system-wide hardware isolation for trusted software. The Arm CryptoCell-312 provides hardware-accelerated cryptography, ensuring the Anona Holo smart lock is secure and reliable, essential for building consumer confidence in smart home security solutions. Arm TrustZone provides trusted execution by implementing a division between secure and non-secure Flash, RAM, peripherals, and GPIOs.  

Powered by four AA batteries, the smart lock has an estimated lifetime of between four and six months before battery replacement, or eight months in low power mode (when performing 10 locks and 10 unlocks or fewer per day with a good Wi-Fi connection). This extended battery life is achieved thanks in part to the ultra low power operating characteristics of the nRF5340 SoC.
