Nordic Semiconductor’s latest location services and wireless audio IoT solutions on show at MWC Barcelona

Mobile World Congress Barcelona

Nordic’s Thingy:91, nRF Cloud Location Services and Bluetooth LE Audio power diverse and innovative demonstrations at the giant annual connectivity event

Mobile industry and technology event MWC Barcelona returns with a physical presence in 2022, providing an ideal opportunity for Nordic Semiconductor to reconnect with its valued customers as well as anyone interested in the latest low power wireless and IoT advances.

Nordic plans a range of exciting and informative demonstrations at the annual mobile and technology event including how location services will revolutionize asset tracking and how LE Audio will usher in the next generation of wireless audio. The demonstrations will take place daily at Nordic’s booth (Stand 5F41) at Hall 5, Fira Gran Via. The world’s largest and most influential connectivity event, MWC is organized by global industry association the GSMA and will be held in Barcelona, Spain, from February 28 to March 3, 2022.

Demonstrating the cellular IoT and short-range wireless technology

Nordic’s main tech demonstration at MWC will combine the Nordic Thingy:91 cellular IoT prototyping platform and the company’s nRF Cloud Location Services. Thingy:91 is built around the nRF9160 low power SiP with integrated LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and GNSS and is the ideal platform for developing Proof-of-Concept cellular IoT asset tracking solutions. It works out-of-the-box with nRF Cloud Location Services, which support customer applications that need fast and power-efficient location details. This demonstration will show several Thingy:91s tracked around the world using the various features of nRF Cloud Location Services.

LE Audio on display

LE Audio is the next generation of Bluetooth wireless streaming. At its heart is a new codec called Low Complexity Communication Codec (or LC3) which supports higher quality, lower power wireless streaming compared with existing Classic Bluetooth audio solutions. At MWC, Nordic will demonstrate LE Audio applications, based on the nRF5340 advanced wireless SoC and a Cirrus Logic® TWS ADC/DAC.

“This will be a very important MWC event for all stakeholders – including global mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, and vendors,” says Geir Langeland, EVP Sales & Marketing with Nordic Semiconductor. “The event provides Nordic with an excellent opportunity to reconnect face-to-face with European customers. It’s an opportunity we plan to use to demonstrate how fast things have moved despite the pandemic in not only areas such as asset tracking and wireless audio, but also the smart home, health care, education, industrial automation and more.”

Throughout MWC, LTE-M and NB-IoT connectivity provider, IoT Creators, will deliver workshops demonstrating how to use its NB-IoT/LTE-M IoT network in conjunction with Nordic’s Thingy:91 cellular IoT prototyping kit. IoT Creators will also have a booth (Hall 6) as part of MWC’s 4YFN (Four Years From Now) concept, where the company will showcase the potential of previously unconnected assets when wirelessly connected to the Internet. In addition, IoT Creators is giving away 1000 free Nordic Thingy:91 cellular IoT prototyping platforms across the event.
