Danish smart security company, Secuyou, has launched a Nordic Semiconductor-powered Matter over Thread compatible wireless smart lock. The smart lock can be easily installed on a patio door, enabling homeowners to access their home via their smartphone, without the need for a key. Users can also remotely provide access to authorized third parties, such as trusted tradespeople or family members.
The ‘Secuyou Smart Lock Matter’ is powered by Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF52840 multiprotocol SoC and can be locked or unlocked using Matter over Thread connectivity between the smart lock and a smart home ecosystem. The Secuyou smart lock works with any Matter-compatible ecosystem device integrating a Thread border router, including Apple, Google, Amazon, and Samsung solutions. A Bluetooth® LE version is also available that can be directly unlocked via the Secuyou smartphone app.
“A smart home should be simple and reliable, and that’s what you get with a Secuyou smart lock powered by Nordic’s wireless technology,” says Jens Albertsen, CTO and co-owner of Secuyou. “You can easily control the lock from your smartphone and never have to worry about an unlocked door or lost keys.”
Once the lock is installed the user can set up a range of scenarios via their smart home ecosystem app. For example, it can be set to lock automatically when you leave your home, or lock at specific times, such as in the evening. Powered by two AAA batteries, the smart lock has a battery lifetime of approximately two years between replacement, thanks in part to the ultra-low power operating characteristics of the nRF52840 SoC. The nRF52840 SoC has been engineered to minimize power consumption with a fully automatic power management system.
The nRF52840 is built around an Arm® Cortex™-M4 CPU with floating point unit running at 64 MHz and incorporates an Arm CryptoCell-310 cryptographic accelerator. The accelerator delivers an extensive range of efficient cryptographic options for applications demanding the highest level of security, such as smart home applications. It also integrates Arm TrustZone® providing trusted execution by implementing a division between secure and non-secure NVM, RAM, peripherals, and GPIOs.
“The excellent support from the Nordic team was one of the main drivers behind originally choosing to work with Nordic ten years ago, and the company is still delivering,” continues Albertsen. “Nordic’s team provided excellent support when we were developing our application code on the back of the nRF Connect SDK, and it is thanks to them that we have a Matter product on the market today.”
