Nordic Semiconductor, a global leader in low power wireless connectivity solutions, today announced that it has been awarded the ‘Communication Technology Innovation Award’ in the OFweek IoT Awards 2024. The award recognizes the nRF9151 low power System-in-Package (SiP), a compact cellular IoT solution that supports LTE-M, NB-IoT, GNSS, and DECT NR+.
The OFweek IoT Awards celebrate excellence and innovation in the IoT sector. Now in its ninth year, the awards are claimed to be one of the most authoritative and professional awards programs in IoT. The awards are organized by OFweek, a leading high-tech industry portal in China, and aim to honor the most forward-thinking and innovative IoT products, technologies, and companies. The winners are based on the scores from industrial experts and online voting.
Nordic’s nRF9151 is a highly integrated and compact SiP with a multimode modem, advanced processing capabilities, and robust security features; it delivers exceptional performance and versatility. The SiP supports 3GPP release 14, ensuring compatibility with the latest cellular standards. Compared to its predecessor, the nRF9161, the nRF9151 boasts a significant footprint reduction of 20 percent, making it suitable for space-constrained applications.
Further, the SiP offers enhanced output power with support for Power Class 5 20 dBm, complementing the existing Power Class 3 23 dBm. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for battery-powered products, as it helps to optimize power consumption. The nRF9151 is designed to provide global connectivity without regional limitations, thanks to its integrated modem. The modem includes unique features that further enhance power efficiency and ease-of-use.
The nRF9151 SiP will support Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) technology, a significant breakthrough in satellite communications. NTN enables IoT connectivity to reach even the most remote areas of the planet, unlocking new possibilities for global coverage. Additionally, the nRF9151 SiP ensures supply chain resilience, remaining unaffected by U.S. tariffs.
“Nordic’s nRF9151 establishes a new benchmark for compact and highly integrated SiP-based solutions tailored specifically for cellular IoT and DECT NR+ applications,” says Bjørn Åge “Bob” Brandal, Nordic Semiconductor, VP of Sales and Marketing - Asia Pacific. “It enhances Nordic’s comprehensive cellular IoT solution, which includes hardware, software, development tools, and nRF Cloud Services. The solution’s advanced features and seamless integration greatly simplify the development process.”
Nordic cellular IoT is ideally suited to diverse applications such as asset tracking, smart metering, building automation, transportation, smart city, and smart agriculture. The company’s goal is to streamline cellular IoT product development and support the entire product lifecycle. The fully Nordic-owned and controlled nRF9151 solution is now available for sampling to selected customers. Interested parties can sign up for product updates and contact their local Nordic sales representative for more information.
