Nordic Semiconductor, a global leader in wireless connectivity solutions, has joined a strategic interest group of smart building technology companies to ensure ultra-resilient and interoperable wireless connectivity in buildings using the DECT NR+ (NR+) technology standard. The interest group includes major smart building technology companies, including Legrand, Schneider Electric, and Siemens Smart Infrastructure, supported by wireless industry experts, including Nordic Semiconductor, last mile semiconductor, Wirepas, DSR Corporation, and embedded security expert Kudelski IoT.
NR+, the world’s first non-cellular 5G, is an IoT connectivity standard designed to enable massive, long-range, scalable, and dense device networks even in the most challenging environments. It offers ultra-resilient, reliable, and low power communication over the license-free spectrum. It empowers industries with unparalleled flexibility by enabling devices to form decentralized, self-healing mesh networks, without reliance on centralized infrastructure, drastically reducing operational costs and extending network lifespans.
“NR+ is ideal for smart buildings because it enables large, reliable and low-cost networks with a high density of connected devices,” says Kristian Sæther, Product Director, Long Range of Nordic Semiconductor and member of the Board of DECT Forum. “Nordic is pleased to provide its expertise to this strategic interest group because it promises to overcome the limitations of existing building management systems.”
The NR+ interest group will work with hardware and software providers, smart building standards organizations, as well as promoting regulatory adoption to bring the NR+ standard to the forefront of the smart building sector. By aligning technology development with the needs of smart buildings, this initiative will drive a new level of digital transformation for building owners, operators and system integrators.
As a key exhibitor at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona (booth #7G21, hall 7), Embedded World, Nurnberg (booth #4A-310), and Distributech, Dallas, Texas (booth #4926), Nordic will be showcasing live NR+ network that demonstrates this robust, wireless technology that can power large scale, autonomous smart grid applications.
