nRF7000 Wi-Fi 6 Companion IC

The missing link to Nordic's complete SSID-based Wi-Fi locationing solution

The nRF7000 is a distilled down version of the nRF7002 specifically for SSID-based Wi-Fi locationing. With a primary focus on active and passive scanning of Wi-Fi access points, this companion IC offers a reliable and power-efficient solution in location-based applications.

While the nRF7000 doesn't provide direct Wi-Fi communication for internet connectivity, it seamlessly integrates with Nordic’s nRF91 Series cellular SiPs. This brings together the capabilities of the nRF7000 with the nRF91 Series, providing developers with a powerful combination of GNSS, cell-based, and SSID-based Wi-Fi locationing. This setup delivers robust and accurate location results while also allowing the nRF91 Series SiP to handle cloud connectivity via cellular networks.

Using Wi-Fi for low-power locationing

Using Wi-Fi for low-power locationing

SSID-based Wi-Fi locationing

SSID-based Wi-Fi locationing bridges the gap between cell-based locationing and GNSS. Less power hungry than GPS/GNSS and more accurate than cell based locationing Wi-Fi is an ideal addition to most locationing systems. Especially in areas where there is bad GPS reception, like in city centers or inside buildings.

Our location services, such as single-cell (SCELL), multi-cell (MCELL), assisted GPS (A-GPS), predicted GPS (P-GPS), and now Wi-Fi, ensure that battery-powered devices can receive location data efficiently and accurately while extending their longevity in the field. This data is then sent to the cloud for further use.
