Aliro

At Nordic Semiconductor, we are committed to driving innovation in low-power wireless solutions, and Matter represents an exciting leap forward for smart home connectivity. Matter is an open-source, royalty-free standard developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), designed to enable seamless interoperability between IoT devices from different manufacturers.

As a leader in Bluetooth® Low Energy (LE), Thread, and Wi-Fi, Nordic provides Matter-ready solutions that help developers create secure, low-power, and future-proof smart home products. Our nRF52840 and nRF5340 SoCs, combined with our nRF Connect SDK, offer a robust platform for building Matter-compliant devices using Thread and Bluetooth LE. Additionally, our nRF7002 Wi-Fi companion IC extends Matter support to Wi-Fi-based applications.

With Nordic’s energy-efficient hardware and developer-friendly software tools, bringing Matter-certified products to market has never been easier. Whether you're building smart lighting, door locks, sensors, or other home automation devices, Nordic's proven, scalable, and secure wireless solutions ensure a smooth path to Matter certification.

Aliro is a new technology currently 8under development within the CSA. It aims to become the industry-standard access credential and communication protocol. Aliro and Matter are independent but complementary. It is defined by major industry leaders, including Nordic. Aliro offers a secured, convenient, and consistent experience when using smartphones, wearables, or other user devices to unlock doors and openings.

Aliro is redefining the way we unlock doors and interact with access control systems. Acting as a standardized communication protocol, Aliro ensures a seamless and consistent experience across smartphones, wearables, and access readers.

Designed as the new industry standard, Aliro simplifies access control by providing a universal solution that works regardless of hardware or operating system. It introduces a comprehensive, direct application layer for secure communication between door locks, readers, and mobile devices.

Backed by leading mobile and access control OEMs, Aliro establishes a common credential and access technology that prioritizes security, privacy, and interoperability. Certified smartphones, wearables, and access readers will work together effortlessly, ensuring a best-in-class experience.

With Aliro, users can embrace the power of open access. By fostering collaboration between access control providers and mobile device manufacturers, Aliro removes barriers to innovation—paving the way for a more connected and secure future.

Reference application

in cooperation with Qorvo

Nordic and Qorvo are developing a joint Aliro reference application. The application is based on Nordic’s nRF54L Series ultra-low power multiprotocol System-on-Chip (SoC) and Qorvo’s QM35825 ultra-wideband (UWB) SoC. The reference application will enable developers to easily and quickly get started on Aliro and Matter access control - making the smart lock design process accessible for any manufacturer.

An early version of the Nordic and Qorvo Aliro and Matter smart lock reference application is ready to be shared with early technology adopters and will be regularly updated to offer new functionality.
