Nordic Semiconductor today announces that Cary, NC-based smart lighting start-up, PURillume, has selected Nordic’s nRF52832 Bluetooth® low energy System-on-Chip (SoC) for its Orchid LED table lamp, a wirelessly color-tunable LED lamp designed for the hospitality and residential sectors.
PURillume’s Orchid LED table lamps combine elegant design aesthetics with proprietary lighting technology, to deliver fully controllable omnidirectional light. This lighting solution can be easily adjusted by the user to personalize their light, either from the ‘master’ lamp, or from iOS or Android Bluetooth 4.0 (and later) smartphones and tablets running the PURillume app.
Nordic’s nRF52832 SoC provides Bluetooth low energy wireless connectivity between the master lamp and the PURillume app, as well as between the master lamp and one or more ‘satellite’ lamps, thanks to the Nordic SoC’s ability to act as both a Bluetooth low energy ‘Central’ or ‘Peripheral’ device. The wireless synchronization between lamps ensures there is never a mismatch in color temperature between lamps, providing the user with a consistent color in a room.
The energy-efficient LED light provides tunable color ‘temperature’ from a warm to cool white, and adjustable brightness output up to 3250 lumens (brighter than a 150W conventional bulb). Even at its maximum lumen output, the Orchid LED lamp uses less energy than one 60W incandescent bulb. It also features a sleep/sunset mode, an alarm/sunrise mode, and a nightlight mode.
