Global antenna solution provider and IoT specialist Taoglas has joined Nordic Semiconductor’s rapidly expanding Nordic Partner Program (NPP) as a design and solution partner. The addition of Taoglas to the NPP will provide Nordic customers with access to the company’s comprehensive portfolio of antenna designs as well as engineering expertise to help OEMs optimize RF and antenna performance for their wireless design. Taoglas can provide support to companies at any stage of product development from initial system requirements to final optimized board design ready for carrier certification. In addition to antenna solutions, Taoglas also offers Nordic customers a range of other services including turnkey cellular IoT hardware design.
Launched in 2021, the Nordic Partner Program was developed to assist Nordic customers by providing products, services, and solutions that complement Nordic’s portfolio of short range wireless and low power cellular IoT connectivity hardware, firmware, development tools, and reference designs. Partners have broad experience of Nordic technologies and can offer turnkey services able to help get products connected and bring them to high volume manufacturing.
“Optimizing antenna performance for a cellular IoT product can be extremely challenging, and it is important developers follow certain guidelines to maximize the antenna’s efficiency and overall frequency response,” says Lorenzo Amicucci, Business Development Manager, Nordic Semiconductor. “With Taoglas now joining the Nordic Partner Program, our customers will benefit not only from the company’s antenna expertise but also have access to custom antenna design as well as off-the-shelf antenna selection, optimization, and pre-certification services.”
“Market leaders want to work with other market leaders, which is why Taoglas and Nordic have collaborated for years on IoT solutions that transform businesses, cities and more,” says Dermot O’Shea, Co-CEO of Taoglas. “By joining the Nordic Partner Program, we’re giving systems designers, device OEMs, and their customers an even wider selection of reliable, high-quality, pre-tested solutions that they can trust to perform as expected from day one.”
The NPP membership builds on Taoglas’ existing strong relationship with Nordic, with the company’s antenna solutions already deployed in the nRF9160 DK reference platform, as well as collaboration on recently launched products, for example U.K.-based remote telemetry specialist Metasphere’s ‘ART Sewer’ wastewater and sewerage spill monitoring solution.
“ART Sewer gives wastewater utilities network visibility, enabling them to prevent wastewater spills due to high level rain events, blockages, or collapsed sewers,” says Chris Fryatt, Director of Product Management at Metasphere. “To do so requires a highly reliable, high performance connectivity solution with long battery life under challenging conditions.
“The combination of Nordic’s nRF9160 SiP and Taoglas’ GSA.8835 antenna has proven highly successful in not only achieving a five year battery life, but also boosting the cellular IoT signal penetration – even when underground.”
On May 25, at 0900 and 1700 CEST, Nordic and Taoglas will be running a webinar titled “Taoglas Cellular Antenna Certification”.
