Collaboration with Google enables Nordic to embed developer software to build Google’s Find My Device and unknown tracker alert services compatible with Android mobile devices into the nRF Connect SDK

Nordic Semiconductor, a global leader in low power wireless connectivity solutions, today announces it has collaborated with Google to embed support for Google’s ‘Find My Device’ network and ‘unknown tracker alerts’ into the nRF Connect SDK (Software Development Kit). Nordic’s announcement coincides with Google’s official announcement of the technologies for native Bluetooth® Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) tracking using Android mobile devices. The SDK support is now publicly available to coincide with the consumer release of the Find My Device and unknown tracker alerts.

Close collaboration between Nordic and Google

“As a proud design partner with Google, we are excited that our collaboration has ensured we can unveil support in the nRF Connect SDK for Google’s Find My Device network and unknown tracker alerts at launch,” says Kjetil Holstad, EVP Strategy and Product Management with Nordic. “This is a key development because it allows Nordic’s nRF52 and nRF53 Series customers to build innovative device finding products for the global Android ecosystem. Some of our key partners have already taken advantage of the embedded support in the SDK and are ready to introduce commercial solutions, and other customers can soon follow suit.”

“Leveraging the power and efficiency of Nordic’s nRF52 Series SoCs, we were able to seamlessly integrate our products with Google’s Find My Device network. The Nordic nRF52 Series ensures Chipolo finders optimal performance and reliability, helping our users to seamlessly locate their belongings with Chipolo finders and Google’s Find My Device network,” says Jure Zdovc, CTO at Chipolo.

“Together with Nordic Semiconductor we are changing the future of the tracking industry, one device at a time. Our technology, designed to seamlessly integrate with Google’s Find My Device network, signifies more than just a partnership; it represents a leap towards creating an ecosystem where virtually anything can be embedded with our tracking technology and the possibilities are endless. We envision a world where you can find everything that matters,” says Daniel Daoura, Founder and CEO at Pebblebee.

nRF Connect SDK helps build products with Google’s Find My Device network

The embedded developer software in the nRF Connect SDK allows third-party device manufacturers to build products utilizing Google’s Find My Device network and unknown tracker alerts services. Several Nordic key partners have already built commercial nRF52 Series-based device finding products compatible with the Google services ahead of Google’s official launch.

Google’s Find My Device network allows Android users to locate important everyday items, for example, pocketbooks, keys, and luggage. Unknown tracker alerts, a built-in protection of Google’s Find My Device help to protect user safety by alerting them if an unfamiliar Bluetooth tag is detected to be moving with them.

Google has just launched the Find My Device network.
